A COMMUNITY OF READERS · GUIDED STUDY · SERIOUS CONVERSATION
The project

About the Book Club.

An intellectual space organized around books, conversation, and sustained study.

Our purpose

Reading as a shared intellectual practice.

The Silk Roads Book Club brings together readers to explore a carefully selected text or theme through close reading and guided discussions.

Each book is normally covered in five to eight weeks, with a weekly lecture and discussion session. Selected courses also include special conversations with scholars or authors and optional writing activities.

How it works

The format.

01

Close reading

Carefully selected books and thematic, guided explanation of the text.

02

Dialogue

Weekly discussions, critical questions, and open conversation.

03

Further study

Scholarly guest sessions, optional writing tasks, and an evolving intellectual curriculum.

The wider curriculum

Intellectual traditions across disciplines.

The planned reading programme ranges across Islamic intellectual history and philosophy, legal thought, secularism and modernity, global Islamic history, South Asian Islam, Sufism, political history, anthropology, historiography, and more.

The full reading list is an evolving curriculum; it should not be interpreted as a list of confirmed future course dates.
